Master the Art and Science of Why Men Cheat

Master the Art and Science of Why Men Cheat

Why Men Cheat Issues

3 Reasons (and yet surely not all) Why Men Stray on The Women They Adore

I guess the simple answer is that they can.  About one in two and a half men (no pun  intended), will cheat during their marriage.  Only 8 percent of men who are unfaithful said it was as a result of sexual dissatisfaction. However, 48 percent of men who strayed alleged it was as a consequence of psychological dissatisfaction.

1. Some damaged men have a long history of unresolved childhood pain or other secret emotional problems that may cause him to rely on sexual excitement and conquest instead of intimacy for emotional gratification.  Having an affair develops into a need in his life.

2. Revenge.  She strayed on you, and you didn't walk.  For men, a woman on the side is a beautiful thing.  We want our cake to arrive with a little ice cream on top.  Certainly not so with most  women.  If she is cheating on you, she has likely checked out on an emotional level and is searching for the exit.  You won't in truth get revenge, but you simply give her the justification to do what she desires to do - and that is not you.

3. It does not happen frequently, but when a stunning woman comes on to you, especially if she  is aware you are married or in a committed relationship, it takes more resolve than the typical man has to turn that offer down.  You may never see another chance like that.  It's  even hotter if she is committed and cheating on her husband.  Somehow, the benefit always seems higher than the risk.

One of the things women do not understand is that men exist in a society of infidelity. We see it all around us. Just about every single day.  We have associates who have cheated on their wives. We have been on business trips where we went to strip clubs and our business partners went into the back room for a lot more. We don’t tell our spouses. A lot of men, even husbands, run with the Vegas idea that what is revealed among men stays among men.

If you ask a man if he's unfaithful, and he is extremely defensive and tries to make you feel like you're crazy, that is a critical indicator. The cheating man does more than lie.  He may then attempt to turn it around and make the woman feel like she's over the line. A man who has not cheated is typically more taken aback and stunned. If he denies it, begin checking his phone. ~ http://txtromance.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/whymenlieandcheat.pdf

And maybe even before she commits, she needs to know how to capture his heart and make him love her for ever and ever.  The best defense is a good offense. ~  http://txtromance.com/capture-his-heart-and-make-him-love-you-forever-a-mans-view/

Develop Your Small Business Marketing Plan

Develop Your Small Business Marketing Plan ~ http://www.lpcmarketing.com/

Times are difficult.  Competition is fierce.  Your business needs each benefit a local business advertising and marketing calendar can provide it to survive and succeed.

1. Concentration and Discipline

A small business marketing plan is the spirit of your whole business strategy.  A weekly checklist of activities will keep you on track to beat the competition.  Understand that many of your competitors are flying by the seat of their pants, as you might be doing at this time.

Investigate your competitors.  Look at their mainstream media buys and online resources.  Determine if they are sending out direct mail.  You need to be eating their lunch, not having them devour yours.

An effective marketing plan will surely boost your sales and increase your profit margins. You should be able to convince customers that you have the finest product or service for them at the best possible price.

2. Marketing Plan

For small businesses, a marketing plan should cover one year. For small companies, this is often the best way to think about marketing. Things change, workers leave, markets evolve, customers come and go.

Many business owners blur the lines between branding, promotion, advertising, and public relations. Those are the media channels of a message or campaign, not the marketing itself.

Once you have mapped out an annual plan, you can choose to take the actions yourself, or contract out your continuing marketing to a professional.  For most businesses, an outside contractor is more effective than an in-house employee.

3. Comprehending Your Market

Numerous advantages can be extracted from the marketplace if you know how. The small business marketing plan is an excellent tool for identifying and developing techniques for taking advantage of these advantages.

4. Tracking

Even experienced marketing professionals have difficulty tracking which media, advertising, and promotional buys result in profits.  Tracking is a pain, but necessary.  You will want to shed those activities that don't add to the bottom line.

"Half the money I spend on advertising is wasted; the trouble is I don't know which half." John Wanamaker ~ http://www.quotationspage.com/quote/1992.html

5. Accountability

A good marketing plan holds everyone accountable.  Now that you have an understanding of market circumstances, you can flesh out your plan. This plan does not have to be a formal document, but should at a minimum consist of a written outline to communicate with staff or outside consultants.

Accountability is required at all levels - whether inside your company or outside.

A good quality marketing and advertising calendar is more than a easy step-by-step of digitally and offline campaign.  Marketing and advertising is part art, and part science.

Come to LPC Marketing to learn more about a small business marketing plan, as well as using reputation marketing to boost your SERPs and prevent having to deal with reputation management.

Romance Impaired Unearthed

the Romance Impaired Unearthed

As a charter member of the romantically impaired, I want all the aid I can receive around birthdays, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day for the mother of my children, and any other day my better half designates is ripe for romance.

10 Fast Romantic Suggestions:

1. Take control, yet be familiar with what she likes.  If she does not enjoy roses, discover which flowers make her smile.  If she loves Italian, do not offer wings at the sports bar at game time.  If she lives for Broadway, do not push for Vegas.  Mostly, she needs to know that you understand what her favorites are.

2. Buy a tree with your partner and plant it in a special location. Every year on your anniversary, have a glass of champagne next to your tree and discuss how your love and tree have grown.

3. Always listen for things that your partner reminisces about and write them down somewhere. For example, perhaps she speaks about the ice cream she enjoyed from a particular shop when she was small. When a special occasion comes along, check your list of things your significant other talks about and attempt to recreate one of them, such as delivering that special ice cream.

4. Females seldom go to the spa alone.  Once or twice a year, spring for her and her best friend gal pal to get facials, massage, and nails done.  Realize that if her BFF is married, her spouse will detest you for raising the standard.

5. When your partner is ill at home, take a day off to look after her. Rent some videos, make her soup, wrap her in a blanket, and just be with her.

6. Study your partner's preferred pastime and pinpoint a present that is really useful for her. The more focused the gift the bigger the impression it will have. Speak to her friends and family, and use the Net to uncover the information you need.

7. Jot down a note saying "I thought of you and it made me smile." Leave the message somewhere where your partner is certain to discover it, or text it to her phone.

8. If you find free postcards at hotels or restaurants, write love notes on them and send them to her - home or office.

9. Above all if you are married, you definitely must have a date night, even if only once or twice a month.  It does not need to be costly, but it has to exclude children, and can include friends where you can show her off.

10. If your significant other has voice mail at work or on her mobile phone, leave a message saying "Just wanted you to know that I'm thinking of you." She will appreciate this anytime but particularly when she is going through a tough period.

10 ideas are not a large amount, but it is more than sufficient to keep me busy for a couple of years.

The New Despotism by John P. Cochran

But of far greater importance in the realm of freedom is that invisible government created in the first instance by legislature and executive but rendered in due time largely autonomous, is often nearly impervious to the will of elected constitutional bodies. In ways too numerous even to try to list, the invisible government – composed of commissions, bureaus, and regulatory agencies of every imaginable kind – enters daily into what Tocqueville calls "the minor details of life.

War Scare in Korea – A Manufactured Crisis by Eric Margolis

Last week, two nuclear-capable US B-2 stealth bombers flew non-stop from America to South Korea, and then home. These ‘invisible’ aircraft can carry the GBU-43/B MOAB 13,600kg bomb that is said to be able to blast through 70 meters of reinforced concrete, putting North Korea’s underground nuclear facilities and its leadership’s command bunkers under dire threat.

Nullify the War on Drugs by Mark Thornton

Public opinion now favors the outright legalization of marijuana with nearly three-out-of-four adults in favor of legalizing medical marijuana. These numbers should continue to grow, because the polls exhibit a type of “generation effect,” in that people are not changing their minds as they grow older. Some prominent and diverse figures, such as Joycelyn Elders (Bill Clinton’s Surgeon General) and the Reverend Pat Robertson now openly support the legalization of marijuana.

Ideally, libertarians want to end the war on all drugs, fully and immediately, but in reality that will only happen after necessary initial steps are taken. Colorado and Washington have already taken some steps by legalizing marijuana. Other states will surely follow.

Don't use them. Don't care who does.

treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia

Media_httpuploadwikim_fjafr

Enlarged prostate remedies vary. Numerous effectual pharmaceutical drugs are available to improve symptoms of prostate enlargement. There are in addition effective organic therapies including the use of time-tested herbal products. Some regularly used herbs for enlarged prostate gland include rye pollen, stinging nettle, saw palmetto, and pygeum, Plant extracts have also been investigated include beta sitosterol, quercetin, rosaminic acid, genistein, daidzein and lycopene. In addition to herbs and mainstream medications, there is also some critical, common sense, behavioral changes that can help combat prostate warning signs. Among these modifications are minimizing fluid intake, limiting or ending alcohol and caffeine consumption, particularly in the evening, and not passing up a chance to use the bathroom, even when your bladder does not feel full. These easy measures can help decrease the effect of an enlarged prostate on a man’s life.

Discover The Prostate

The prostate gland is a critical part of the male reproductive system. The  prostate produces a fluid that mixes with sperm and other fluids during  ejaculation. These fluids nourish and transport sperm during the process of  semen ejaculation throughout sexual excitement. A normal prostate gland is around  the mass of a walnut.

Three main variations of prostate issues: enlargement, infection, and cancer.  Prostate enlargement, called benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) is a  non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate. Although men in their 20s can  suffer from BPH, it usually only surfaces late in life. it’s estimated that  50 percent of all men will have BPH by reaching the age of 60, and a full  90 percent will suffer from BPH by age 85. When the prostate enlarges  outward, a man might not realize he has BPH except when it grows upward and places  pressure on the bladder. But when the prostate swells inward, squeezing the  urethra, which passes through the center of the gland, he will certainly know  there’s a problem. With the prostate constricting the urinary tube, a man may  suffer from difficulty in urinating, straining to initiate urination, frequent  urination, getting up multiple times at night to urinate, or urgency of  urination.

Enlarged prostate remedies vary. Numerous effectual pharmaceutical drugs  are available to reduce symptoms of prostate enlargement. There are in addition  effective natural therapies including the use of time-tested herbal products.  Some regularly used herbs for enlarged prostate gland include rye pollen, stinging nettle, saw palmetto, and pygeum, Plant extracts have also been  investigated include beta sitosterol, quercetin, rosaminic acid, genistein,  daidzein and lycopene. In addition to herbs and mainstream medications, there is  also some basic, common sense, behavioral modifications that may help combat prostate  warning signs. Among these changes are reducing fluid intake, restricting or ceasing alcohol and caffeine use, especially in the evening, and not passing up  a chance to use the bathroom, even when your bladder doesn't seem full. These easy steps could help reduce the effect of an enlarged prostate on a man’s life.

The principal medical remedy for BPH symptoms is non-invasive surgery  known as trans urethral resection of the prostate, also frequently referred to as  reaming out the prostate. There are in addition drugs like Proscar used to shrink the  prostate, but these drugs have not been especially successful and have damaging side  effects. Prostate infections, or prostatitis, are quite common in males after  their teenage years. Symptoms of prostate infections might include frequent and  or laborious urination, other urinary problems, or pain during sex.

The most critical prostate problem is cancer. Cancer of the prostate is the second most frequently diagnosed cancer in males after skin cancer. It is the second most common cause of cancer death in males after lung cancer. The early symptoms of prostate cancer are extremely similar to those of BPH, including  getting up often at night to urinate; urinating often, but only in trivial  amounts; having to wait forever for the urine flow to begin; and a urinary  stream that starts and stops. These symptoms don’t mean that a person has  prostate cancer. But these or other symptoms do indicate it’s time for a  medical exam.

Prostate Enlargement is widespread as a man ages and matures. Medical doctors  call this condition as enlarged prostate BPH or "benign prostatic hyperplasia".  As the prostate enlarges, the layer of tissue surrounding it stops it from  expanding, causing the prostate gland to press inward against the urethra and  limiting the flow, narrowing the space for urine to pass. The bladder wall  also will become thicker and irritable. The bladder begins to contract even when it  contains even small amounts of urine, creating more frequent urination by the  male. Sooner or later, the bladder weakens and loses some ability to entirely empty  itself and urine stays in the bladder. The narrowing of the urethra and  partial emptying of the bladder cause a large number of the issues associated  with an enlarged prostate. A doctor can determine an enlarged prostate during the hated finger prostate exam.

What The Prostate Might Teach Us

What The Prostate Might Teach Us

The walnut-shaped prostate sits just underneath the bladder and is wrapped  around the urethra. The prostate, despite its position, has nothing to do with a  man’s urinary equipment . The prostate is where it is as it’s necessary for  ejaculation, and the semen passes through the same urethra as urine does. The  prostate gland’s main job is to add special fluid to the sperm before it  ejaculates from the penis. That is why the prostate is where it’s at, and why  prostate issues interfere with the male’s ability to have sex and urinate.

Three main variations of prostate issues: enlargement, infection, and cancer.  Prostate enlargement, known as benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) is a  non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate. Even though men in their 20s can  suffer from BPH, it normally only surfaces late in life. it’s estimated that  50 percent of all men will have BPH by reaching the age of 60, and a full  90 percent will suffer from BPH by age 85. When the prostate enlarges  outward, a man may not realize he has BPH unless it grows upward and places  pressure on the bladder. But when the prostate swells inward, squeezing the  urethra, which passes through the center of the gland, he will certainly know  there is a problem. With the prostate constricting the urinary tube, a man can  suffer from difficulty in urinating, straining to initiate urination, frequent  urination, getting up multiple times at night to urinate, or urgency of  urination.

The signs or symptoms of an enlarged prostate can vary, but the most common ones  involve changes or issues with urination, such as a tentative, interrupted,  slow stream, urgency and leaking or dribbling, more frequent urination,  particularly at night. This is often called nocturia. Men who have symptoms of  prostate obstruction are much more probable to develop chronic kidney disease.  These are disconcerting and dangerous issues if not found and corrected in time.

The principal therapeutic treatment for BPH symptoms is non-invasive surgery  known as trans urethral resection of the prostate, also frequently referred to as  reaming out the prostate. There are also drugs like Proscar used to diminish the  prostate, but these drugs have not been that successful and have damaging side  effects. Prostate infections, or prostatitis, are quite widespread in males after  their teenage years. Symptoms of prostate infections can include repeated and  or painful urination, other urinary problems, or pain during sex.

The fear of having prostate cancer can be devastating to most men. Prostate  cancer is most effectively dealt with when discovered early. Consider these statistics supplied from the American Cancer Society: Nearly eighty percent of all prostate cancers are found while they are still localized, or confined to  the prostate. The five-year survival rate for men diagnosed with prostate tumors discovered at this early stage is a whopping 100 percent. Testing  works.

Prostate Enlargement is frequent as a man gets older and matures. Medical doctors  call this condition as enlarged prostate BPH or "benign prostatic hyperplasia".  At the same time as the prostate enlarges, the layer of tissue surrounding it stops it from  expanding, causing the prostate gland to push inward against the urethra and  limiting the flow, narrowing the space for urine to pass. Sooner or later, the bladder weakens and loses some ability to totally empty  itself and urine remains in the bladder. The narrowing of the urethra and  incomplete emptying of the bladder cause a large number of the issues associated  with an enlarged prostate. A medical doctor can determine an enlarged prostate during the dreaded finger prostate exam.

The View From Abroad by Fred Reed

If you have lived abroad, as so very few Americans have, the explanation for the hatred is obvious: Meddling. Relentless, prideful, uncomprehending meddling, frequently military, often with horrendous death tolls. Americans, adroitly managed by a controlled press, historically illiterate, incurious, decreasingly educated, either have never heard of the American behavior that angers others, or believe it to have been inspired by virtuous motives. Nobody else thinks so. Add to unfamiliarity with the wider world the constantly inculcated assertion that America is the greatest, most wonderful nation ever to exist, a light to the world, a shining city on a hill, and you get a dangerously delusional state. Especially now. In the past, American economic and military supremacy were such that the US didn’t have to care what others thought. The times, they are a-changing.

and so it goes - http://burndownthefreakingmission.com

The View From Abroad by Fred Reed

The United States is the most hated country in the world, followed closely by Israel, and then by nobody. Why? Why not Ecuador? China? Russia? East Timor? The hostility puzzles many Americans, who genuinely believe their country to be a force for good, a pillar of democracy, a defender of human rights.

Ketogenic Diet May Be Key to Cancer Recovery by Joseph Mercola

To some, a ketogenic diet amounts to nothing less than a drug-free cancer treatment. The diet calls for eliminating carbohydrates, replacing them with healthy fats and protein.

The premise is that since cancer cells need glucose to thrive, and carbohydrates turn into glucose in your body, then cutting out carbs literally starves the cancer cells. Additionally, low protein intake tends to minimize the mTOR pathway, which accelerates cell proliferation.

This type of diet, in which you replace carbs with moderate amounts of high quality protein and high amounts of beneficial fat, is what I recommend for everyone, whether you have cancer or not. It’s simply a diet that will help optimize your weight and health overall, as eating this way will help you convert from carb burning mode to fat burning.

How Does It Work

Back in the midst of 2005 and before, this was the perfect solution for anyone who had no money to invest on advertising cost. Today in 2013 bum marketing is still used for getting traffic to what ever your needs are. Traffic for your website or affiliate offers is still done today with article writing, although the affiliate offers are not accepted by quite a few sites. However, there is always a solution and the bum marketer method simply would redirect a domain name to their affiliate hop link. This is called domain redirecting or forwarding. That can be accomplished through where you bought the domain name in the first place.

Can Chuck Hagel Stop the Pentagon Juggernaut? by Eric Margolis

Contrary to what most Americans believe, the US Defense Department is not really about defense of America’s shores, but about offensive operations abroad. The US has some 1,000 bases and powerful air, naval and land forces scattered across the globe enforcing the Pax Americana.

Obama’s False Alarms by Andrew P. Napolitano

The reductions the sequesters require are reductions in the rate of increased spending from those originally planned by Obama and authorized by Congress. Since the federal government has not had a budget in four years, even though federal law requires it to have one every year, these are planned expenditures, not budgetary items, on which the president wants to spend more money. Congress does not feel bound to obey the laws it has written; hence it has disregarded the legal requirement of a budget. Without a budget, the president has great leeway as to how to allocate funds within each department of the executive branch of the federal government.

How Google’s PageRank Algorithm Screwed the Online Writer (and What They Did to Fix It) | Copyblogger

Your 20-point checklist for creating high-quality content

Panda wasn’t (by any means) a flawless update.

Some people felt they were unfairly punished. Others were just confused. In response, Google pointed webmasters and bloggers to their web writing guidelines.

Those guidelines boiled down to these rules:

  1. Care — deeply — about the quality of your writing, and about your audience.
  2. Go deep with original research.
  3. Share a never-before-seen interview.
  4. Avoid redundant, duplicated, or stolen content.
  5. Build so much trust with your audience that people would be happy to hand over their credit card.
  6. Build your authority — and your site’s authority.
  7. Spell correctly.
  8. Fix factual errors.
  9. Repair bad grammar.
  10. Write for humans — not machines.
  11. Create something nobody has ever seen before.
  12. Remain balanced and worthy of your audience’s trust.
  13. Cover a topic comprehensively (don’t aim for an arbitrary word count and stop once you reach it).
  14. Avoid the obvious. If thirty people have already reported on the Facebook Graph Search, then find something else to write about (unless you have information nobody else does).
  15. Create something strangers want to share and bookmark.
  16. Don’t overuse promotions, calls-to-action, and ads.
  17. Write something a good magazine or journal would print.
  18. Steer clear of short and useless.
  19. Spend an insane amount of time on detail.
  20. Create something people want to talk about (preferably positively).

You would think these would not have to be spelled out. http://writer-publisher-curator.com

How Google’s PageRank Algorithm Screwed the Online Writer (and What They Did to Fix It) | Copyblogger

Here’s what to expect in this post

In the last post in our Author Rank series I wrote about why writers and content creators should care about Author Rank (it’s not just because Hunter S. Thompson would).

In this post we’ll explore the early phases of Author Rank. You’ll discover:

  • Google’s original attempt at evaluating web pages with PageRank
  • The abuse of PageRank — and the ugly consequences for the writer
  • Google’s response to that abuse (hint: their response rhymes with “Amanda”)
  • A 20-point checklist on creating high-quality content in a new web era

Everyday Activities May Have Same Health Benefits as Going to Gym – WebMD

Short stretches of physical activity -- such as taking the stairs or raking leaves -- throughout the day can be just as beneficial as a trip to the gym, according to a new study.

Researchers looked at more than 6,000 American adults and found that this "active lifestyle approach" appeared to be as effective as structured exercise in providing health benefits such as preventing high blood pressure, high cholesterol and the group of risk factors known as metabolic syndrome that increases the risk for coronary artery disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes.

I want to believe.

The right question: Can the U.S. government avoid defaulting? The answer is clear: no.

Steve Jobs and Apple Vision

Media_httpuploadwikim_agikz

Before you go into the marketplace, make certain you have your central ideals down pat. It doesn't make a difference if you are the richest man or woman in the cemetery. A company needs to have the ethics and the spirit of a startup to stay competitive.

Distortion of Dorner Manifesto by Mainstream Media by Michael S. Rozeff

Expect severe distortion of the Dorner Manifesto by the MSM. You cannot simply read headlines and expect to know anything. You have to do more research than that to understand any issue. You also cannot read only the news articles of one or a few sources, especially the established or mainstream media. These routinely editorialize within so-called news accounts. They selectively choose and distort material.

Expect the worst from govt and media when one single officer going off the reservation causes so much havoc. http://burndownthefreakingmission.com

Sniperism by William Norman Grigg

Why would you see such a choice as a reflection of the "cynicism" of the expatriate, rather than a demonstration of the failure – indeed, the evil – of the government that has driven him to leave the country he loves? There are thousands of Americans who are being driven to leave this country every week, most of them because they can no longer stand having their honestly earned wealth plundered by Obama and his comrades.

Expatriation is of limited practical value when you're confronted with a regime that claims the world as its natural jurisdiction. I'm reminded of an observation from Edward Gibbon's history of the only previous imperial power to which the Regime in Washington can be compared:

"The empire of the Romans filled the world.... The world became a safe and dreary prison for its enemies.... To resist was fatal, and it was impossible to fly....`Wherever you are,' said Cicero to the exiled Marcellus, `remember that you are equally within the power of the conqueror.'"

Will There Be a US War on China? by Eric Margolis

A war over the Senkaku/Diaoyus would be like the 1998-2000 desert war between Eritrea and Ethiopia, described as "two bald men fighting over a comb." No matter how much fish swim around the Senkakus, or how much oil and gas may be found underwater, nothing justifies a war.

as usual, Eric Margolis is the go to guy for watching international trouble spots - http://iPerpetualTraveler.com

'Gun Violence': The 'National Conversation' We Won't Have by William Norman Grigg

Guerena, a former Marine and Iraq combat veteran, was gunned down by a Pima County SWAT team who committed an illegal home invasion on the basis of a spurious search warrant. When the invaders arrived, Jose was asleep after finishing a graveyard shift at a local copper mine. It’s difficult to believe that the 26-year-old father of two would be working the graveyard shift if he had been at the center of a large marijuana smuggling operation, as the Pima County Sheriff’s Office later claimed on the basis of unalloyed speculation.

A Visit to the 'World’s Most Livable City' by Mark Nestmann

Because of its central location, EU membership, and outstanding amenities, Austria has become an increasingly attractive residence option for high-net-worth families worldwide. EU citizens, along with citizens of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland, don’t need a residence permit to settle in Austria. Citizens of other countries who wish to reside in Austria must obtain a residence permit, unless they have a right of residence according to EU law.

And Salzburg is even better for a relaxing vacation. http://iPerpetualTraveler.com

Blogger Ordered to Pay Tens of Thousands for Defamation | Internet Marketing Strategies by E Brian Rose

These headlines may seem a bit outrageous, but they are becoming more prevalent. Too many folks are under the assumption they can say whatever they want on chat forums, blog posts or comments, tweets, and FaceBook. The fact is libel and defamation laws are just as strong in the cyberworld as they are in the real world.

Still going to be a tough road. The main thing you need to know before suing someone is if they have money to pay a judgment.

How I Doubled My Testosterone Levels Naturally and You Can Too by Brett McKay

The unsexy truth is that increasing testosterone naturally simply comes down to making some long-term changes in your diet and lifestyle. As you’ll see, what I did to increase T largely boils down to eating better, exercising smarter, and getting more sleep. That’s pretty much it. But as with most things in life, the devil is in the details, so I’ll share with you exactly what I did and provide research that explains why the things I did helped boost my testosterone.

The Inspiring Heroism of Aaron Swartz by Glenn Greenwald

But in July 2011, Swartz was arrested for allegedly targeting JSTOR, the online publishing company that digitizes and distributes scholarly articles written by academics and then sells them, often at a high price, to subscribers. As Maria Bustillos detailed, none of the money goes to the actual writers (usually professors) who wrote the scholarly articles – they are usually not paid for writing them – but instead goes to the publishers.

This system offended Swartz (and many other free-data activists) for two reasons: it charged large fees for access to these articles but did not compensate the authors, and worse, it ensured that huge numbers of people are denied access to the scholarship produced by America's colleges and universities. The indictment filed against Swartz alleged that he used his access as a Harvard fellow to the JSTOR system to download millions of articles with the intent to distribute them online for free; when he was detected and his access was cut off, the indictment claims he then trespassed into an MIT computer-wiring closet in order to physically download the data directly onto his laptop.

The exploitation of writers by publishers takes many forms. Change is inevitable, but if writers control their own work, and become Writer-Publisher-Curators, we can get ahead of the curve. http://writer-publisher-curator.com

Let’s Not Forget the World’s Most Dangerous Border While We Fret About Iran and North Korea by Eric Margolis

India and Pakistan have fought three wars and some very large battles over Kashmir. Both claim the entire mountain state. Pakistan’s intelligence service, ISI, has waged a long covert campaign to insert guerillas into Indian Kashmir to aid a series of spontaneous rebellions against Indian rule by the state’s Muslim majority.

World’s Fourth-Richest Man Has Fingers Crossed…For Belgian Citizenship!?

The fourth-richest man in the world, worth $41 billion according to Forbes, is not all that savvy when it comes to picking the right nations in which to store wealth. France’s richest man, Bernard Arnault, would have done himself some good by subscribing to The Dollar Vigilante before embarking upon his current fiasco or, for that matter, reading any of the freedom press available on the Internet.

When this kind of money doesn't help, what can the rest of us expect. http://burndownthefreakingmission.com

Passport Denials Long a Feature of U.S. Foreign Policy by Mark Nestmann

The author, Dr. Jeffrey Kahn demonstrates that today’s refusal by the U.S. State Department to issue passports to suspected terrorists or those suspected of possessing terrorist sympathies is nothing new. Indeed, for decades, the authority to approve or deny a passport was vested in a single State Department official. The decisions of this official, Mrs. Ruth Shipley, weren’t subject to judicial review. Her powers, and the arbitrary ways in which she employed them, were conceptually little different from those existing today in terrorist watchlists and similar government efforts.

What’s Your 20 Mile March? | The Art of Manliness

The group analyzed seven companies that performed not just better than their industry, but ten times better. They discovered a very interesting key finding. The qualities that business gurus frequently tout as being the main difference-makers — things like innovation, creativity, and the ability to quickly pivot in a fast-changing world – were indeed somewhat important, but it was actually discipline, fanatic discipline, that was one of the true master keys of the companies’ success.

Discipline is a huge challenge for writers. http://writer-publisher-curator.com

10 Reasons Why You Have to Quit Your Job This Year Altucher Confidential

5) Count right now how many people can make a major decision that can ruin your life. I don’t like it when one person can make or break me. A boss. A publisher. A TV producer. A buyer of my company. At any one point I’ve had to kiss ass to all of the above. I hate it. I will never do it again.

The way to avoid this is to diversify the things you are working on so no one person or customer or boss or client can make a decision that could make you rich or destroy you or fulfill your life’s dreams or crush them. I understand it can’t happen in a day. Start planning now how to create your own destiny instead of allowing people who don’t like you to control your destiny. When you do this count, make sure the number comes to over 20. Then when you spin the wheel the odds are on your side that a winning number comes up.

Billionaires Dumping Stocks, Economist Knows Why

Despite the 6.5% stock market rally over the last three months, a handful of billionaires are quietly dumping their American stocks . . . and fast.

Warren Buffett, who has been a cheerleader for U.S. stocks for quite some time, is dumping shares at an alarming rate. He recently complained of “disappointing performance” in dyed-in-the-wool American companies like Johnson & Johnson, Procter & Gamble, and Kraft Foods.

In the latest filing for Buffett’s holding company Berkshire Hathaway, Buffett has been drastically reducing his exposure to stocks that depend on consumer purchasing habits. Berkshire sold roughly 19 million shares of Johnson & Johnson, and reduced his overall stake in “consumer product stocks” by 21%. Berkshire Hathaway also sold its entire stake in California-based computer parts supplier Intel.

All the signs of a bad consumer economy are out there. http://burndownthefreakingmission.com
